1. The Project
The central objective is to understand in detail the process of the onset of chronic inflammation, which underlies many diseases, in order to prevent them. Special attention is given to the gut microbiota: the community of microorganisms that live in our intestines acts as a messenger between our diet and the body, maintaining the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. IMMEDIATE’s goal is to better understand these mechanisms and learn how to guide them towards health.
One of IMMEDIATE’s main goals is to identify the molecules that can indicate when our body is shifting towards a state of disease, even before symptoms become evident or significant organ damage occurs, and to investigate which factors make some people more resistant to diseases than others.
